Alyssa Stankey

Alyssa began dancing in Sherwood Park, Alberta at the age of three. She has trained in many different disciplines: ballet, pointe, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, modern and musical theatre.  Alyssa excelled in performance and technique studying under the Cecchetti ballet syllabus completing competency examinations with distinction and receiving certification at the Intermediate-level.

Alyssa’s notable dance career includes scholarships to Los Angeles/New York and Vancouver while receiving top category awards in competitive solo/duet performances, groups and productions.

Alyssa brought her talents to professional productions as a dancer at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Opening Ceremonies in Edmonton, Alberta for millions of viewers around the world.

In 2016, Alyssa represented Team Canada at the Ballet, Jazz, and Modern World Championships in Germany. Alyssa earned 1st place Gold Medal standing in both Ballet and Jazz Formations and she is an International Dance Organization (IDO) World Champion.

In 2017, Alyssa was also honoured a second time to represent Team Canada at the IDO World Championships in Poland and stepped on the podium a second time earning silver medal standings in both Ballet and Jazz Formations.

Alyssa is currently enrolled at the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Education. Along with her studies she is also a member with a contemporary dance company where she has been a choreographer and executive team member for the past three years.

This will be Alyssa’s fourth year as an instructor and choreographer at Drea Lee Dance Studio and she is excited to share her passion and
love for dance with her students.

As a Dance Teacher, Alyssa prides herself on creating a safe classroom environment where each student feels welcome, comfortable and
supported on their dance journey. Alyssa utilizes dance pedagogy to help develop students’ artistry, creativity and critical thinking skills in dance. Most importantly, Alyssa inspires her students to express themselves through movement, and to feel confident and proud of their abilities.
